The key sites of the project

The project has as its starting point a number of magnate’s residences and settlements from the first millennium AD, which it is suggested functioned as regional centres for the pre-Christian cult. They include Tissø and Toftegård on Zealand, and the supposed magnate’s residence at Hoby on Lolland, together with the settlement near Gudme on Funen. Recent interpretations of these sites indicate that they contain vital evidence which can shed light upon both the form and content of the religious rituals, and the control of the cult sites connected to the residences of the elite in the first millennium AD.
